Joyce Wadley (MacKinnon)
Joyce and Kenny live in Abbotsford and have 3 children. She loves to travel and particularly enjoyed a trip to the Outer Hebrides. Joyce says she regrets not taking commercial in high school since she worked in offices all my life! Her motto is The Golden Rule and she would like to be remembered as a caring and compassionate person. In summing up, Joyce says: I have had a very happy marriage and an active life, and now I can put my feet up and enjoy.

 | JOYCE WALTON-Class 6Joyce has lived with husband Doug Gordon, on Cracoft Island (accessible only by air or water) for the past 10 years. While Doug runs a 76' landing barge for the fish farm, Joyce keeps the wolves , bears and cougars from the door. Her oldest son died in a car accident 12 years ago, and her youngest son lives in Nanaimo but comes home frequently. "We're healthy - barring a little arthritis here and there - overweight, in spite of spartan living and hard work (I guess it's the hot sticky cinnamon buns right out of the oven.) But it's nice to sit on the porch, look out over the water, catch a fish when we want, dig a clam or two when we want, and watch the tourist boats rushing to get as far away from civilization in their two weeks off from the rat race." Joyce particularly remembers Messrs. Robson, Harris and Sparks, "who gave so much of their time and energy to the music and drama program. Forty years has not dimmed my admiration of them." |
 | RON WARN-Class 7 Here are Rons last 50 years in 198 words (more or less). I returned to J.O. for Senior Matric and then to U.B.C. for my B.A. (biology, chemistry, psychology), then entered post-graduate studies for my M.A. (psychology). I met and married Dorothy in 1957. She earned her B.A. and we both returned to the Faculty of Education and earned our teaching certificates. I then taught in Burnaby for 32 years as a teacher of math, counsellor, vice-principal of several elementary and secondary schools, and finally principal of Suncrest Elementary from where I retired officially in 1989. I returned to teach as a substitute for about 2 1/2 years. During my career we lived in several Lower Mainland
communities with our two daughters and one son. We finally reside in Nanaimo next to our summer home on Gabriola Island where we spend between 8-10 months of the year. Weve travelled extensively: 7 cruises (Caribbean, Hawaii, Alaska, South Pacific, etc.) crossed Canada, New York, Europe (7 countries with 200 students to supervise), Disneyland in California, Disneyworld in Florida, Mexico, and, of course, B.C. I look forward to many more years of good health and personal enrichment through travel, family times, enjoyment of arts and literature, and for sure, the Internet. Ron was happiest when he first became a dad in 1962what a thrill. Travel is Rons greatest extravagance, especially a trip to Tahiti with the entire family, including mother-in-law, in tow and another was paying for two great
daughters weddings plus a honeymoon trip for his super son. One stand-out journey was a week spent learning to sail in the Gulf Islands on a 32 sailboat. Rons greatest achievement was my marriage to a marvelous woman. . . and raising three great kids. He regrets not continuing to study music for the sheer love & enjoyment of it and would like to be remembered as a person who genuinely loves people, as a good husband, a caring dad and a grandpa who loves & leads. For the rest of his life Ron plans a cornucopia of activity which include fulfillment through a deeper spiritual life in Christ, travel, reading & surfing the net. (Nice full response Ron - the prize for length is definitely yours.)

 | GORDON WARREN-Class 2Gordon Warren
Gord lives in North Vancouver (where he claims to have been happiest for 30 years) with his wife, Ernestine; they have 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Gord says he is still working but didnt say at what except that it was self-employment. A gambling man, he says his great extravagance is playing the machines and gambling in Reno (that business isnt printing your own money is it?). He likes travel in the sun, particularly Arizona, remembers playing sports at Jayo, and considers his greatest achievement staying married for 47 years. He would like to be remembered as a good husband and father and his motto is live and let live.

 | LOIS WATLEY-Class 6Lois Watley (MacFarlane)
Lois is a retired nurse, but a '"not yet retired housewife" who lives in Vancouver with hubby, Bud. They have 3 children and 2 grandchildren. A generally happy person, Lois was especially happy when her children were small and when the grandkids started to arrive. Her favourite journey was a holiday to Fiji, New Zealand, & Australia and her big extravagance is shoes! (But Lois, you only have two feet.) She has fond memories of J.O. particularly of The Barrets of Wimpole Street, her stint on the Student Council and as editor of the Annual. She is proud of having attained her R.N. at Royal Jubilee but regrets not pursing her nursing career longer. Lois would like to be remembered for her smile so it seems appropriate that her motto is, Smile and the world smiles with you! Cry and you cry alone. She sums up her last 50 years this way: Graduated nursing 1953; married 1954; 3 children, housewife, grandmother, church, volunteering, quilting & gardening; looking after the elders of the family; poor health since 1997 - so much has changed. Same house since 1962. Best buddy still Marilyn Robertson - since 1941 (and that's a long time).

 | HAZEL WEISS-Class 4Hazel Weiss (Hart)
Hazel has lived in Hinton, Alta. with husband, Adrian all 47years of our married life; they have 2 children. In 1987 Hazel retired from her job as teacher-librarian. She currently serves on a regional authority board for services to children and families which she says is restructured child welfare. In her many accomplishments, including writing The History of Hinton, Hazel says that she won the maximum on a T.V. show which unfortunately was not The Millionaire. She has travelled extensively and particularly enjoyed China as well as Greece, Spain and Austria. She would like to be remembered as a person who helped others less fortunate than the norm, and her motto is: Live for today as tomorrow may not come. About her last 50 years, Hazel says, I have been a successful teacher, well-known author and Justice of the Peace. My life has been one of helping others thats probably why Im not a millionaire.

 | KEN WESTOVER-Class 5Ken Westover
Kens second wife, Lorraine passed away 2 months ago but Ken continues to live in Campbell River and says he will stay put at least for another year. He has 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Ken has had a varied career starting when he and Ron Will signed on as cooks in Kemano right after high school. Neither of them knew how to cook, but they lasted a year and Ken says they still didnt know how to cook when they left. He has been a sergeant in the military, a first aide attendant, a lab builder for Kamloops University of the Caribou, where he lived for 20 years, and lastly an airport security commissioner. Not surprisingly, Kens motto is: Variety is the spice of life. Ken still skis and rides his bike and says Ive got my dog, and thats about it.

 | SHIRLEY WHITE-Class 6Shirley had this picture snapped at the 40th and Bill was right - (and you're still cute!)Shirley still lives in Delta with husband, Jack Rutherford, whom she describes as "my nearest and dearest," and to whom she will have been married 48 years in October. (Congratulations Shirley & Jack!) They have 4 children who live in California, Campbell River, Squamish, & Langley and Shirley says that their lives revolve around the kids and their 11 grandchildren. She still plays badminton "with a great group." delivers Meals on Wheels, and attempts to bowl - "just for the social aspects." She still keeps in touch with Dorothy Matthews (Mutt & Jeff) and "as long as I have good health and enjoy gardening, will enjoy every day to the fullest and hope to be around for the 60th reunion." (Let's not even go there.)

 | STAN WILBEE-Class 4Stan Wilbee
Stan and his wife Anne, live in Sorrento, B.C. (where?) have 4 children and 11 grandchildren. A man of many talents, Stan counts among his achievements receiving his M.D. from U.B.C. in 1957 and being elected a Member of Parliament for Delta in 1988. He claims to have been happiest working in medical practice in Tsawwassen and his favourite journey was a trip to Japan with the Governor General for the Emperor's wedding. (We'd be interested to know what you took as a wedding gift.) He regrets his "bad investments," (don't we all) but for the future "looks for surprises and a new career." (Maybe he's younger than we thought.) He remembers many good friends from Jayo and would like to be remembered "with fondness and for integrity." Stan's motto: "Seek first the Kingdom of God and and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you." Stan says his last 50 years were "a tremendous adventure with a lot of great surprises. The tragedy of the loss of a daughter, age 11, in a motor vehicle accident. Friends and memories to look back on, and a hope for the future of even more." (Great attitude there Stan.)

 | RON WILL-Class 5Ron is seen here with his grandaughter Michelle. Ron lives in Langley. He has 5 daughters, 2 step-daughters, 1 step-son, 9 grandchildren & 5 step-grandkids (and thats a big Christmas turkey). Ron retired from the Yellow Pages and currently manages his own properties in Whistler & Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Happy most of the time, his extravagances are properties & playing the stock market. Rons favourite journeys are cruises and an African safari. For the rest of his life he plans to travel & enjoy life, etc. (its the etc. that we are interested in Ron). His greatest achievement is surviving & succeeding. And his motto is (wait for it): Where theres a will theres a way (very punny Ron). When asked about his last 50 years, Ron replied Fifty years doesnt cover what Ive done. (Theres that cursed ambiguity again.)

 | ROBERT WILLETT-Class 4
Robert Willett
Bob and wife, Marlene, live in Port Moody close to their son and daughter and 3 grandchildren. Bob retired ten years ago from his Director of Human Resources position in North Vancouver District to spend more time with his family and to enjoy playing golf, which he often does with Ron Gault and Ray Andrus. He tells us that whereas Ron is a long ball hitter, he isn't (does this mean that you putt for dough?). Besides playing golf, Bob is a philatelist and a numismatist (and you thought you could keep it a secret, Bob) who also likes to spend time at the slot machines & playing black jacksometimes in Reno, but more often at the local casinos,, especially the Riverboat Casino.

 | BEV WILSON-Class 7 Bev Wilson (Nielson)
Still living in Point Roberts (is it the cheap gas?), Bev is married to Ron and has 3 children and 5 grandchildren. She retired from Retail Lumber & Building Supply and claims to live in the present and every day feel happy to be alive and feeling well. She confesses to just plain being extravagant and doesnt know where to begin to detail it. Her favourite journey was a trip to the Greek Islands and she plans to spend the rest of her life exercising her mind & body. The companionship of wonderful friends is her fondest memory of high school and her greatest achievement is her family. Bevs only regret is having lost her mother at a young age; her motto is the Golden Rule; and she would like to be remembered with warm loving thoughts by those I am close to. The last 50 years have brought the following realizations: 1. marriage and children taught me to think of others; 2. a job well done is personally rewarding; 3. appreciating the beauty of nature is uplifting; 4. during sorrow and illness there is strength and comfort in the 23rd Psalm. What freedom we have. What a privilege to live in this time and place.
