HELEN VAPAAVUORI-Class 2

Helen Vapaavuori (Nicholson) Helen & Bob live on Salt Spring Island and retired 10 years ago. Helen describes her last 50 years this way: "I worked as a secretary, married Bob, had 2 kids, moved to California in business there for 12 years. Returned to Salt Spring, built a home, operated a business, retired, now paint, garden, read, walk and watch the boats go by." (What, no TV.?) Now that she's raised "2 great kids," Helen says she was happiest when the grandchildren started to arrive (she has 5) and her greatest extravagance is "spoiling them." (Spoken like a true grandmother.) Like Bob, Helen's favourite journey was house-boating on Lake Shasta. She remembers "the nice kids I hung out with" at the old school and for the next 20 years or so plans to "stay ahead of the undertaker." Helen was once referred to as "a neat old broad," and that's how she would like to be remembered. Her motto: Don't put off until tomorrow. . .
