 | ALLAN and TERESA GATE-who were married Aug 15, 1970
Allan Gate
Allan lives in Placentia, Calif. He is married (thank God since) he has 10 children, 21 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren! His last 50 years went roughly (and how) like this: After a few years of a great single life I got married. I had a new wife, new house and new job. The marriage lasted 13 years and 3 kids. I had about 3 years of great single life then married Terri who had 7 kids. I worked about 15 years in the corrugated paper industry becoming the first four-colour printer, then 22 years in electronics. I had a neck injury and found a lighter job as assembler (for cabin parts for aircraft) for 8 years and finally retired at 65. Allan feels that he was happiest in
the early 50s when he first went to California - I had a car, money, girls and freedom! Not surprisingly his car was a cadillac - my greatest extravagance. His favourite journey was his very first vacation to Lake of the Woods in Ontario with his mother, father & grandfather (now thats going back some). His favourite memories of Jayo? the dances, skating parties and sports events, and he considers his greatest achievement raising 10 kids into responsible adults. (Sounds as though a medal wouldnt be out of order here, Allan.) He has no regrets and only wishes his parents had lived longer. Allan would like to be remembered as hard-working, caring, loving and generous and his motto is, Live and let live.

 | ALLAN and TERESA GATE
We have been in continuous close touch with Al, mainly through his younger brother, Tom, who is "on the net" and have received many b&w shots from our school days. Unfortunately, Al's Doctor was somewhat optomistic about chemotherapy and surgery was called for after all. Al had most of one lung removed on Dec. 29th,1999. The "op" was a sucess and Al is now back home and in good spirits.

 | BRUCE GARRISON-Class 7Bruce attended the 40th reunion where this picture was taken from the group. He is married to Marie and lives in Victoria. |
 | RON GAULT-Class 4Ron Gault
It was difficult to drag information from the generally reticent Ron, but we did manage to get a scoop wait for it Ron has now taken up lawn bowling. In fact, his wife, Marg, was last years club champion (good on ya Marg). Golf is still Rons first love, however, and in sunny Ladner he seems to find lots of opportunity to play. Ron retired from the Tax Department many years ago, has 3 children with a first grandchild on the way. He stays in touch with Bob Willett & Dennis Morris and still hopes to see Loretta Peterson.

 | HARRY GERTZ-Class 5Harry Gertz
Harrys last 50 years? The last 50 years have been interesting spending 35 years teaching and trying to keep ahead of the game. Have two grown boys living in the Vancouver area. My wife (Sandra) taught in Vanc. for 35 years so we are both enjoying our retired lifegardening, travelling, sports, socializing. Its amazing how the time has eluded us, but we have our health, so no complaints. I hope some still recognize me. (Everybody now practice, gee Harry you havent changed a bit!) Harry feels that he has generally had a happy life; his greatest achievement is, getting through so far; and his greatest extravagance is sports activities. Harrys favourite journey was to the Middle East in 1998. He fondly remembers the noon hour discussions at Jayo (is that when we complained about Miss Adams and Miss Montgomery?) and he only regrets not having led a more active social life at Jayo. He would like to be remembered as someone who did his share to make the world a better place and his motto is: Live today who knows the future.

 | DEWART GIBBENS-Class 31Lives in North Vancouver with wife, Pat. |
Bob Gilbert, still got that winning smile, Sept.1999 |
Bob visiting with Bill Griffiths in September 1999. Bob's wife Laverne wrote on their Christmas card this last year, that she had been writing the cards for a "few years" as Bob "had alzheimers". We arranged a visit with him and Laverne and he looks great. He is in a nice residence in Victoria and his wife Laverne visits with him daily - a great lady full of dedication, despite her own serious medical problems. |
 | PAT GILBERT-Class 4
Pat Gilbert (Chadwick)
Pat lives on Saltspring Island with Robert, her partner of many years. She has 2 children & 3 grandchildren. Pat spent many years as a community health nurse, travelling the province giving workshops on menopause and developing a book on that important subject. She is still interested in gardening and has produced 1,300 Pelargonium plants which she sells to pay the taxes. The victim of two rear-enders, Pat still suffers neck and back problems but says she is very happy on Saltspring watching the boats go by. The biggest disappointment of her life has been her brother Bobs incapacity and she feels that attending the reunion without him just wouldnt be the same. We wish both of you well Pat and well miss you.

 | DOROTHY GOODALL-Class 31Dorothy's married name is Dingwall and she lives in Hamilton, Ontario. |
 | EVELYN GOSSEN-Class 6Unable to contact. |
 | HAROLD GRAHAM-Class 4
Hal Graham
"Life is for living Do it! Enjoy it!" says Hal (and it sounds like a pretty good motto to us). Hal and wife Evie live in Winnipeg and Hal reports: "I have been blessed with a wonderful wife and family. We have 6 children all married and in successful careers. We have 10 grandchildren, they keep us young! I completed a challenging 25 years as a navigator in the R.C.A.F. (retiring in 1977 as Lieutenant Colonel). I am now finishing my 25th year in a new career as a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church, a teacher at St Paul's High School, and a Pastoral Assistant at St. Ignatius Church." In his travels Hal has managed a circumnavigation of the world: Montreal - Azores - Mediterranean Sea - India - Singapore - Tokyo - Hawaii - Montreal (around the world in how many days?). Hal's memories of Jayo include "the girls, the
fun, the dances, the bowling, the girls!" (Right on!) And he considers his greatest achievement to be "completing grade 12 without doing any homework (almost none)" A guy who really enjoyed life at Jayo, (especially coming from an all boys school) Hal regrets only spending 2 years in grade 13 "perhaps I could have had one more." For the rest of his life Hal says, "I plan to live it to the fullest day by day." |
 | ED GRENDUS-Class 5Ed lives in Richmond, B.C., is married to Marily, and has no children. He is a bulldozing and trucking contractor whose hobby is woodworking. He has happy memories of dances, rugby, and pool with the boys and teachers Mr. Kelly, Mr. Young and Miss Weatherbee. His proudest accomplishment is "having reached my goals." (What were they Ed?) |
BILL & BONNIE GRIFFITHS - 2000Bill & Bonnie's first home was in Vancouver, but they also lived in Winnipeg & Toronto for 6 years. Bill spent his first 15 working years with Canada Metal Co. as Supt. of Refining.Smelting, He took a graduate course in metallurgy from IC&I and was "well-known in the field of non-ferrous smelting" (were you out standing in the field again, Bill?) "I always liked education," he says, and over the years he has taken several diploma courses in a variety of eastern universities. On returning to the West Coast, Bill started a career in real estate and would you believe it, back to U.B.C. again for his sales licence and again for the Intensive Agents Program. He ran his own firm, Griffiths & Tonnelly Realty, for almost 25 years. The family settled in Burnaby & have lived in the same house since 1967. Just when he has it remodeled to Bonnie's taste, they are looking for something smaller. They have 2 sons, 1 daughter and 3 grandchildren, are active in their church and attend Mass every morning. Bill still makes the odd (?) real estate deal, but is "virtually retired." (Could we call that virtual retirement?) He keeps busy studying the computer, the Internet & genealogy (for $100 you too can get a copy of his family tree!), as well as walking and enjoying a cigar at Burnaby's Foreshore Park "any time the weather permits."
